NATURE OF WORK:
**This position works 20 hours per week but may revert to 15 hours per week, dependent upon funding**

Performs a variety of tasks under general supervision that support the UF/IFAS (University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences) and other Bay County programs as a part-time (20 hrs/wk) employee. Work involves assisting Extension Faculty, planning and coordinating market, and implementing educational programs ad information. May require the application of independent judgment and knowledge of policies or procedures, with administrative ability dealing with standard practices and procedures; recognizing departures from standard practices, and referring to a Department Director for final decisions. Schedule will vary according to activities planned and will include nights and weekends.   Overnight travel may be required for training, meetings, or other programming needs. This position reports to the County Extension Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists with Extension programming, posting information to the web including social media, coordinating local meetings and events, completing general office duty tasks, and working with the public daily.
  • Assists in planning, developing, implementing, teaching, and evaluating comprehensive Extension programs.
  • Assists walk-ins and answers phone calls/email requests by providing information to the public.
  • Works as a member of the Extension team and is willing to help other staff with a positive attitude.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with other employees, IFAS departments, public officials, community groups and the general public.
  • Assists faculty with the creation and review of news articles, grant proposals, reports, web content, and social media posts.
  • Provides marketing and public information to target all individuals, groups, organizations, and agencies and other promotional materials including both print and electronic media.
  • Assists faculty in recruiting, training, retaining, and evaluating volunteers.
  • Regular reliable  attendance as scheduled.
  • The employer may add to or change duties at any time and as determined by the County and its leaders to best ensure that the public is served through the work of the Department.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Marketing or related field is preferred
  • Must maintain good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with the public and co-workers.
  • Must be able to speak, write, and comprehend English language.
  • Bilingual preferred.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver license upon offer of employment with a driving record acceptable to the County Driving Policy and insurance program.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
  • Outstanding project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Publisher, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and a variety of web-conferencing applications.
  • Proficient at social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
  • Ability to operate office equipment including computer, copier, fax, printer, microscope, camera, laminator, projection unit, and calculator.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Work is primarily performed in an indoor, climate-controlled environment and is nearly absent from disagreeable elements (e.g., irate customer, extreme noise, heat, odors, heights and/or dust).

This is primarily office work requiring limited physical effort.  This position requires stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, visual acuity (i.e. seeing up close, seeing far away, depth perception), kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, climbing, finger movement, repetitive motions.  Frequent lifting of 10 to 15 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds, and may require lifting up to 50 lbs.
