Reports to: Director of Communications

Main Function: The primary responsibility for The Communications Assistant is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. As a committed follower of Jesus Christ and spiritual leader, the Assistant will serve God faithfully as part of the FUMC staff and within communications ministry. The Assistant should use his/her spiritual gifts, education, and experiences to lead in creative ways which encourages the church to grow beyond its existing ministries.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Administrative experience
  • Communications & graphic design experience preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher)
  • Preferred experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
  • Experience with email marketing software, such as Constant Contact
  • Experience in (or interest in learning) online media – website, social media, registrations
  • Energetic self-starter with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, team orientation and commitment to high quality
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Familiar with office equipment such as copier, folding machine, etc.

Principal Duties:

  • Responsible for the church’s print publications to connect & communicate with both the church & the community
  • Responsible for planning, organizing, producing, and mailing the weekly newsletter
  • Responsible for maintaining attractive, current, informative signage throughout church buildings
  • Responsible for mass email communications including digital newsletter, special announcements, and more
  • Responsible for printing and assembling employee packets for new staff members
  • Responsible for placing printing or signage orders with vendors and seeing the projects through to delivery and payment
  • Help tell the church’s story through basic photography of ministries at work for use in newsletter, website, etc.
  • Oversee and manage the workroom to include supplies and all machines
  • Available to help in the church office as needed by the office manager
  • Active participation in ongoing and scheduled meetings
  • Copy chancel choir music each week
  • Continual professional growth and development
  • Manage content submission deadlines and reach out to staff to gather information as necessary
  • Be available to staff and church members by maintaining regular office hours as well as returning phone calls & emails
  • Other opportunities that may be assigned by the Director of Communications, Executive Pastor, or Senior Pastor
