The Tallahassee Democrat, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK Florida Sports region, is seeking an energetic and experienced sports reporter to help cover Florida State athletics. This reporter, based in Tallahassee, Florida, will join our sports staff team and work with primary FSU beat reporter Curt Weiler. The ability to attract new subscribers with breaking news, insider analysis and consistent enterprise across all Seminole sports (men & women) is mandatory. We are looking for someone who is digitally savvy, can develop the sourcing to make our FSU coverage better and wants to be part of a winning team, dedicated to producing sports content with impact, excitement and information.

Responsibilities:

  • Fundamental understanding of how to grow subscriptions through topics, timeliness and storytelling.
  • Commitment to becoming the leading voice in area of expertise.
  • Connect with the community through storytelling and outreach (social media, on camera, podcasts, etc.)
  • Provide thoughtful analysis of complex issues.
  • Works with Democrat sports editor Jim Henry to evaluate what’s working and will use metrics to develop ongoing plans to better satisfy audience needs.
  • Collaborates with content team to provide all appropriate elements for stories (i.e. photos, videos and graphics).
  • Captures basic photos and video as needed.
  • Promotes personal brand, the brands of colleagues and the institutional brand.
  • Provides great customer service, helping readers find answers and solutions.
